Thanksgiving is a holiday which should put each of us in mind of the many things we ought to be thankful for. I want to use this space and this time to mention a few things from the Word that each of us can be thankful for on a daily basis:
Give thanks for the coming of Jesus and his accomplished mission of redemption and salvation (Luke 2:38).
Give thanks for God’s gift of grace that is Jesus which enables us to know and speak about him (1 Corinthians 1:4).
Give thanks for the gift of faith in Jesus and of love for one another (Ephesians 1:16; Colossians 1:3-4; 2 Thessalonians 1:3).
Give thanks for God’s working in us and through us (Philippians 1:3-4).
Give thanks for the gospel (2 Corinthians 4:15).
Give thanks for the positive example of other believers (1 Thessalonians 1:2-3).
Give thanks for those in positions of governing authority (2:1-2).
Give thanks to God for being set free from sin (Romans 6:17).
Give thanks to God for the victory of Jesus over death and our sharing in that victory (1 Corinthians 15:57).
My family and I are going to take this list and use it around the table this Thursday and commit to thanking God each and every time we can for every thing we can. Cosmic idea, huh?
What are some of the things you are thankful for?
